We believe all students deserve an Art curriculum that is ambitious and rich in knowledge. We feel strongly that we want to develop the mindset and skills necessary for students to be future artists, designers and craft makers, not just teach students art.  In line with the Trust’s vision, we want all young people to ‘make outstanding progress’ through an Art curriculum that aims to ignite and maintain students' creativity, promote experimental techniques and enhance execution, empowering students to confidently realise intentions. Students should also know how art both reflect and shape our history, and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Careful consideration has been, and continues to be, put into developing the Art curriculum; the curriculum spirals and is planned and sequenced so that new component knowledge and skills build on what has been previously taught; revisiting the formal elements of art throughout years 7 -11 is routine.

Students will be taught units of work that cover and go beyond the requirements of the national curriculum, and this should enable students to:

• Develop their own ideas and ways of working that enables them to produce personal and creative artwork.
• Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other techniques which allows them to produce work that is skilful.
• Research a diverse range of artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
• Demonstrate tolerance when exploring the ideas, beliefs and faiths of others.
• Develop their use of ICT in art through digital techniques and online research.
• Skill share ideas and techniques with peers to build confidence in communication including oracy.
• Develop a repertoire of ambitious vocabulary which aids the student's understanding, not only of the theme they are studying but the world around them.

Art has an important role in developing students' cultural capital. Studying Art helps students to appreciate different things in society and understand how to relate with individuals in various settings.
