As the Headteacher, I am delighted to welcome you to The King’s School. I hope that our website will give you an indication of the opportunities available here and a flavour of the school’s personality.
The King’s School is proud to be part of Pontefract Academies Trust. We are very much part of a family of eight schools, working in support of each other to provide the best educational experience for the young people of Pontefract. As a school, we have a long history and rich heritage, which puts us at the forefront of the local educational landscape and beyond.
It is fair to say that the world has changed in recent times and we, like others, have navigated through a global pandemic. This has come at a time of significant change for the school, which has resulted in my appointment as Headteacher and other key appointments across the Senior Leadership Team. We have introduced a number of new systems and have recruited some extremely talented people – firmly rooted in the culture of being a school that exists for the benefit of the students and putting them at the heart of what we do. I am genuinely excited at the prospect of being able to improve the life chances of the young people of Pontefract. Being a ‘Ponte lad’ myself, I know the local area and how much talent we have in the town; it is my job to ensure that our students flourish and have the keys to success in the future.
Already an Ofsted ‘Good’ school, we are now firmly on the journey to becoming 'Outstanding'. There has been a real transformation in how the school operates. Behaviour is excellent, which ensures that our students can really focus on their learning and teachers can focus on delivering excellent lessons. We believe that our students all have strengths and areas to develop, and we take great pride in developing and building on those strengths and helping them improve where they need to.
The King’s School is one of the highest performing schools in the Wakefield Authority, but please believe me when I say that our ambition goes further than a local context. Our ambition is to be one of the highest performing schools at a national level; not for accolades or awards, but so that we are supporting all of our students to achieve their full potential. We are committed to developing teaching and learning, to ensure that we provide a first-class experience for all students. Our students make new friends, mature in a positive environment and have the opportunity to engage in a wide-range of extra-curricular activities, designed to develop social skills.
Our students are at the heart of everything that we do and we believe that it is our duty to convert their potential into reality. We live by the mantra of compassionate rigour; we will not apologise for having high standards but we will walk alongside all of our students to allow them to become the best version of themselves. In recent months, alongside our well-established Trust values, we have engaged all stakeholders to create our individual school vision. Simply put – This is King’s. I would urge you to read this here to get a real understanding of what we are about.
We are a happy, caring, welcoming school who aims to get the best outcomes for our students, whilst appreciating that grades are just one piece of the jigsaw for a well-rounded education. The King’s School has been an integral part of the local community for many years and we look forward to enhancing the reputation of the school further by working with students who are confident, articulate and achieve their potential.
