Francesca Scholes, a Year 7 student at Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has landed a role in The Nothern Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at Leeds Grand this winter. The production is on from the 20th November to 7th January. Francesca started dancing at the age of 14 months old. She learned to dance at the same time as she started to walk. The passion has been passed down from her Mum, who used to be a freestyle dancer. The Year 11 football team who are part of Division 1 of the Wakefield School’s League have completed the treble without losing a game locally. The team was made up of, Leyton Spencer, Joe Royle, Dom Brian, Jacob Bacon, Adam Barnes, Frayza Benton, Joel Learmouth, Harry Charlotte, Alfie Charlotte, Toby Copley, Riley Bennett, Logan Kotchie and Mason Byford, 3 of which are in Year 10. Pontefract Student Elected To Represent Wakefield East

Daniel Hopkins, a 15-year-old who attends The King’s School in Pontefract, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has been successfully elected as part of the Wakefield Youth Council. The Wakefield Youth Council is a platform for Wakefield residents ages 13-18 to serve as youth leaders empowered to share policy ideas and youth comment in the community. Two years ago, Daniel admits he was very shy and this opportunity would have been far out of his comfort zone. Young Fundraisers Receive Special Mayor Award

Pupils from 6 primary schools in Pontefract, all part of Pontefract Academies Trust, were invited to a special awards ceremony at the Mayor’s office on Thursday to celebrate the incredible fundraising effort they and other schools in the local area contributed to. Organised by The Prince of Wales Hospice, the ceremony celebrated £61,000 being raised from one event alone – a Reindeer Run. In December, children were encouraged to run, dance, skip or hop and get sponsored for doing so. Students from Pontefract Academies Trust secondary schools, The King’s School, and Carleton High School competed in The Prince of Wales Hospice ‘Dragon’s Den meets The Apprentice’ challenge. Taking inspiration from the BBC’s popular TV shows, The Prince of Wales Hospice created their own exciting challenge for local schools to showcase the next generation of billionaires in the making. Pontefract Students Put On A Show-Stopping Performance

Students from The King’s School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, put on a sell-out performance of the Little Shop of Horrors last week for the local community, parents, carers, and other students to enjoy. Both of our secondary schools were delighted to welcome Mr Brian Berry MA from the Ackworth and Pontefract branch of The Royal British Legion along with other ex-veterans. They gave an inspirational presentation about their stories of serving in the war. They also spoke about the significance of the poppy. Every year, all eight of our schools find fun ways to raise money for Children in Need. Whether it’s baking, running races, raffles and much more. The Rookeries Junior, Infant & Nursery School featured on Look North and the Children In Need programme as they attempted to break the world record of how many wet sponges can you throw at someone in 30 seconds!
