Primary transition

Our aim is to make the transition from primary to secondary education as smooth as possible. Students offered a place at The King's School are invited with their parent(s)/carer(s) to attend a Transition Evening which involves a welcome presentation from the Headteacher and the opportunity to meet members of staff (including their Form Tutor) and ask senior leaders any questions they may have. This event ensures that parents/carers are aware of our expectations and that we have early parental support, which is crucial to a child’s academic success. In addition to this, we offer a full transition day, at which students learn more about life at The King's School with their peers. Each of our students is assigned a buddy from Year 8 to support them and to ensure that they settle in to school life as quickly as possible. Click here to read more about transition.

In-year admissions

When students transfer to The King's School mid-term, they are offered a similar support plan to those coming from primary school. At The King’s School, we place great emphasis on the pastoral care of our students. Each year group has a Year Leader who focuses on academic achievement and a Student Liaison Officer (SLO) who is a non-teaching member of staff who oversees all students' pastoral needs. Parents and carers will meet with the SLO and Year Leader, and students will be assigned a house and a form. They will be issued with a planner and equipment pack, and the Year Leader will be on hand to alleviate any concerns that they may have while settling in. New students will also be assigned a buddy from their year group who will guide and support them through their first few weeks.

If you have any questions about in-year admissions, please contact the Year Leader in the first instance.
