Stronger as One: 80+ staff members take part in Pontefract 10K

This weekend, more than 80 of our staff members took part in the Pontefract 10K, all in support of Oliver’s Army, a cause close to the hearts of our school community. Oliver, the son of one of our teachers, is currently facing a second battle with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. What started as an idea at Carleton High School quickly gained momentum across the Trust, with further schools and colleagues signing to support the cause. Supporting our School Community through Parent Workshops

At Pontefract Academies Trust, we believe that education is most powerful when schools and families work together. The King’s School win the Yorkshire Cup and Yorkshire Plate

The King’s School have achieved a double victory in rugby this season, with Year 7 winning the Yorkshire Cup and Year 9 winning the Yorkshire Plate. Year 7 won the Yorkshire Cup on their first attempt, beating fierce competition from Wolfreton, Hayfield and Prince Henry Grammar in the early stages of the competition. The final was played against Ermysteds Grammar, another highly competitive rugby school. The final score was 40-10, with outstanding performances from Oliver (Captain) and Daniel. The King’s students in the top 10% nationally for Oxford Bebras Challenge

At the start of Term 2, Year 9 students at The King’s School had the opportunity to participate in the Oxford Bebras Challenge. The challenge is organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford. It involves an online computational thinking test which assesses students’ problem-solving skills. Over 240,000 students participated in the UK and we are proud to share that 10 of our students obtained the prestigious GOLD award, which means that they performed in the top 10% nationally of the 240,651 students who took part. The King’s School student accepted into Opera North

Rhys, student at The King’s School, has been accepted into Opera North. This is a fantastic achievement and Rhys has full support from The King’s School, Pontefract Academies Trust, and the entire school community. The application process involved an audition at Howard Assembly Room (home of Opera North) where he had to sing a piece of music, alongside an organist. Plans revealed for Carleton High School’s rebuild under the government’s flagship School Rebuilding Programme

Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has today, Thursday 22nd December revealed the plans for the replacement of its school’s multiple teaching blocks with an entirely new 3-story building, securing the future of the school and high educational standards for all of its pupils for decades to come. Under the government’s flagship School Rebuilding Programme, all costs are being covered for the work to create the new building, which is expected to meet all of the latest environmental and education standards. On Saturday 17th December, our fabulous Pontefract Academies Trust choir put on their first-ever performance at Wakefield Cathedral with the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir. A big thank you to the students who represented all eight of our schools and Mr Parkinson, Headteacher at De Lacy Primary School for directing the choir. Pupils Helped Judge the Annual Christmas Display Competition in Pontefract

Chosen by 13 pupils from across six primary schools, Cartner’s No.5 new bar on Shoemarket in the town has scooped first place. More than 50 businesses entered the competition and were judged by pupils from Carleton Park Junior and Infant School, De Lacy Primary School, Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School, Orchard Head Junior, Infant and Nursery School, Larks Hill Junior and Infant School and St. Giles C.
